A long time ago, he had already discovered that hidden within a person's body were spirits that couldn't be seen.
"It seems like just a normal sleep?"
Gecko was relieved not seeing any monsters and looked around curiously.
"Yes."
Lu Xin nodded. "He is in deep slumber; I tried to wake him up but couldn't."
"Probably not ordinary sleep," Han Bing observed after examining the person, taking a moment of thought before instructing Gecko to return to their previous room and retrieve her suitcase.
She took out some miniature instruments from it, including electrode patches similar to those used for electrocardiograms. Using the gloves on her protective suit, she awkwardly placed them in precise locations before monitoring the electronic screen connected by mechanical links.
"He is indeed in a deep sleep."
As she observed, she reported softly, "However, his mental state is terrible, full of various kinds of radiation."
"This kind of mental fluctuation only appears in severe cases of schizophrenia. His condition is more serious," Han Bing pondered aloud.
...
Turning to Lu Xin, she asked, "What did the spirit monsters you saw at Tianhe Security look like?"
"They were human faces with snake bodies and large eyes, resembling a head with a spinal cord behind it..."
Lu Xin tried his best to describe them in detail. "Each spirit's power level was no more than one hundred. When close to humans, they seemed to cause intense irritation and anger, producing clear scraping sounds. I'm not sure if this is their special ability or something else. Also, there were many of these creatures but very weak; a simple squeeze would kill them..."
...
Han Bing and Gecko exchanged strange looks.
Lu Xin was unaware of it; he had merely provided the most detailed description possible of his experience in that haunted building at Tianhe Security, hoping such details might help Han Bing deduce something useful.
Han Bing listened attentively for quite some time before rising. She removed her glass helmet, then took a large sip from a strong coffee cup.
This action made Lu Xin slightly moved; despite the current state of everyone wanting to sleep yet failing, this little girl who was pouring herself with coffee to save others...
He admired her spirit.
After drinking some coffee, Han Bing thought deeply before addressing Lu Xin:
"Mr. Single Soldier, I think I can confirm something now..."
...
Lu Xin was momentarily surprised and looked at Han Bing.
Han Bing put down the cup and whispered to Gecko, who then went to their previous discussion room and brought a plastic bag containing various items, laying them out on a small table by the bed.
The items were a pack of cigarettes, a box of biscuits, a bottle of drink, and a small plastic package with something that looked like green tobacco. There was also an apparently freshly printed report.
"While you were investigating that haunted building at Tianhe Security," Han Bing said softly, "I did some work as well, including obtaining Sun Heizi's test results and re-questioning Ye Xue and her brother in detail. Although the evidence is not yet complete, I believe I now understand their insomnia issue."
Facing Lu Xin's puzzled gaze, she gently pushed the green tobacco to him.
"Because of this, it’s Black Grass," she whispered.
